LLai and Leong began their sharing by advising participants to think wisely before choosing a college or university. “Don’t merely follow your friends because sometimes their experience would not suit you. You need to stand out of your comfort zone and train yourself to become more independent,” said Lai. “If you don’t have any directions, you can join the Foundation programme to give yourself more time to think about your future,” said Leong.

Teo shared his first-semester experience at UTAR, “I came here alone from Brunei. Initially, everything was difficult for me since I was alone. I wasn’t sure where to get my groceries and food. I started feeling lonely and homesick. However, during the orientation, I managed to meet some new friends and become familiar with the area which was quite similar to Brunei,” said Teo. According to Teo, pursuing his study alone in Malaysia provided him with a pleasant experience because it allowed him to grow and become more independent and responsible.

Daniel Wong shared his experience of becoming the vice-chairperson of the Computer Society, “In the beginning, I was worried I couldn’t handle that position because I had no experience of handling events. The previous committee members, however, encouraged me to give it a try. I also thought that it would look good on my resume. So, I just kept trying and now I have successfully become the vice-chairperson of UTAR Computer Society,” said Daniel Wong. He also mentioned that they faced various challenges in terms of communication in the past two years since most of the events were held online.:p>
