UTAR signed a
memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Malaysian Qualifications Agency
(MQA) as one of the higher education institutes that will pioneer the
Stand-Alone Micro-Credentials (SAMC) programme.
The MoU signing
ceremony was held at the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in Putrajaya on
12 April 2022.
“The SAMC will act
as a support for the Micro-Credential Based Learning (M. CREDIBLE)
initiative by the MOHE and micro-credential courses that are offered by
local private higher education institutions, especially in the aspect of
enhancing the quality and recognition,” said Minister of Higher Education
Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad during the event.
She added, “We are
currently working on a new phase of flexible learning where micro-credential
courses can be recognised for credit transfer. As a result, this will allow
individuals who accumulate a sufficient amount of micro-credential courses
to graduate with the terms and conditions set by the private higher
education institutions.
Datuk Seri Noraini
also sees this as an opportunity for private higher education institutions
to work closely with the industry to come up with solutions that will
increase the market of the graduates, support edu-tourism and offer online
learning opportunities for students oversea.
During the MoU
signing, UTAR was represented by Vice President for Internationalisation and
Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min. The MoU was also signed by
seven other public and private higher education institutions nationwide.
