MoU exchange with Chang Gung Memorial Hospital

UTAR embarked on a formal partnership with Chang Gung Memorial Hospital to jointly hold an academic conference on innovative research as well as to produce more possible collaborations. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) exchange ceremony was held via Zoom on 25 April 2022.

The MoU document was pre-signed by UTAR President Ir Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat and CG Steering Committee Chairman Dr Cherng, Wen-Jin.

In his remarks, Prof Ewe said, “Conducting research is an important social role as we are able to assist entities and governments in developing new knowledge, technologies, policies, products, and services that would lead to the betterment of society. Together, we will broaden the scope of study and maximise its impact by combining knowledge and expertise from both parties.”

He added, “Partnerships between institutions, like friendships between individuals, are built on shared values. UTAR and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital share important values whereby we would like to bring positive impacts to society. We hope to further our collaboration with Chang Gung Memorial Hospital through the exchange of publications, reports and academic materials as this approach will improve the content of academic materials which benefits students and staff.” 

According to him, UTAR and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital will also undergo the exchange of medical students, physicians, technical staff, nurses, researchers and administrators. This initiative allows students and staff to broaden their perspectives and helps them in building a global network as well as acquiring skills in medical care and service.

Dr Cherng, on the other hand, said that UTAR has a great development in all aspects even though it was not long established. He mentioned that UTAR is one of the fastest growing private education institutions in Malaysia which provides an emphasis on resources sharing and research. “In the future, we will work together and provide excellent, eligible healthcare education,” he said.

Also present at the ceremony on behalf of UTAR were Vice President (Internationalisation and Academic Development) Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, UTAR Hospital Project Chief Administrative Officer Chor Choy Yook, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) Deputy Dean (R&D and Postgraduate Programmes) Prof Dr Alan Ong Han Kiat, Deputy Dean (Student Development and Industrial Training) Dr Leong Pooi Pooi, Department of Physiotherapy Head Muhammad Noh Zulfikri bin Mohd Jamali, Department of Surgery Head Dr Yan Naing Soe, Division of Community and International Networking Deputy Director Dr Chen I-Chi.

Representing Chang Gung Memorial Hospital were Executive Officer Yu, Ching-Pang; Vice Superintendent for Linkou Branch Dr Jacob Pang, See-Tong; Chief of Division of Thoracic Surgery Prof Liu, Hui-Ping; and Head of Administration Center of Public Affairs Department Jill Hsia.
