for future collaboration between both parties.
In his remarks, Prof Goi first expressed a warm
welcome to all the delegates and gave a brief introduction to the
University. He said, “UTAR and NTHU previously signed a memorandum of
understanding in the year 2010. Since then we have been working closely with
each other over these 12 years, especially in terms of conducting student
exchange programmes. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, we arranged several
student and staff exchange programmes for our postgraduate and master’s
students at NTHU for a period of three to six months. Today, we are glad to
have TSE visit our Sungai Long Campus.” Prof Goi also took the opportunity
to introduce UTAR Hospital to the delegates.
Dr Doong, on the other hand, thanked UTAR for the
arrangement and said, “We are very happy to be here today and learn about
the programmes offered by UTAR. I am looking forward to discussing further
collaboration opportunities between UTAR and TSE.
Discussion in progress
During the meeting, both campuses presented their
corporate videos which enhanced their understanding of the overall
development of the two universities.
Dr Hsieh then continued to explain the programmes
offered by TSE. He said, “Studying Economics and Political Science does not
mean that they will only have to work in the political field. We always
encourage our students in TSE to learn other areas of speciality; through
our designed curriculum, we hope to train our students to be
forward-looking, multidisciplinary and holistic. We welcome international
students from all over the world, especially from Southeast Asia. We have
students from Indonesia and the Philippines, but we do not have Malaysian
students, so we decided to come to Malaysia to share about TSE.”
An in-depth discussion was carried out between the
two parties regarding possible areas of collaboration which included
dual-degree programmes, postgraduate programmes, PhD research, credit
transfer, student exchange programmes and guest lectures. Both parties were
looking forward to furthering collaboration in the future.
The meeting then ended with a souvenir exchange and a
group photography session, followed by a scholarship briefing titled
Discover Scholarships Opportunity and English Program at National Tsing Hua
University by Dr Hsieh. Held via Microsoft Teams, the briefing aimed to
educate UTAR students on TSE’s 2-Year MA Programme in political economy.
