Impact of climate change on business in South East Asia

The Department of Marketing and the Department of Entrepreneurship and Supply Chain Management from the Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) jointly organised a talk titled The Impact of Climate Change on the Future of Business in South East Asia (SEA) on 21 July 2022 at UTAR Kampar Campus. Present to deliver the talk was Adjunct Assoc Prof Dr Foo Check Woo from the National University of Singapore. Also present at the talk were UTAR FBF Dean Assoc Prof Dr Au Yong Hui Nee, UTAR staff and students.

Dr Foo began the talk by sharing his background. Next, he moved on to highlight the current issues of climate change such as global warming, greenhouse gas emission and so forth whilst explaining how these issues have impacted the world, especially SEA.

Sharing a few scenarios, Dr Foo then conveyed the impacts of climate change to various businesses and further discussed the business responses towards the challenges for its sustainability. Dr Foo also explained five thinking approaches to sustain through climate change. They were automatic thinking, instinctive thinking, critical thinking, creative thinking, and systems thinking.

Dr Foo concluded his talk by summarising some key points he shared earlier. The talk ended after an insightful Q&A session, a souvenir presentation session and a group photo session.
