UTAR and Greatech Integration (M) Sdn Bhd (Greatech)
signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 22 August 2022 at UTAR
Multipurpose Hall of Sungai Long Campus.
The objective of the MoU was to initiate various
projects between the two parties including industrial visits, joint seminars
and talks, industry advisory activities, and many more. The occasion also
witnessed the launching of Greatech Laboratory; a laboratory that would
serve as a place where students can learn the practical applications of
technologies, expand their knowledge and skills, and prepare for real-life
scenarios.
The signing ceremony was graced by Deputy Minister of
International Trade and Industry Malaysia (MITI) YB Senator Datuk Lim Ban
Hong. The MoU was signed by UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and
Greatech Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Dato’ Tan Eng Kee.
Meanwhile, witnessing the signing were UTAR Vice President for
Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min and
Greatech HR & Admin Manager Ms Jenise Loo Khai Tien.

YB Datuk Lim spoke about the partnership between UTAR
and Greatech. He said, “The MoU signing and lab opening is a testament to
the outcome that arises from the partnership between an institution of
higher learning and the industry. Such collaborative efforts by UTAR should
be welcomed and lauded as the way forward for all educational institutions
for the future of education. I would also like to credit Greatech
Integration (M) Sdn Bhd, a leader in itself in the machinery and equipment
industry, for taking the initiative to establish a partnership with one of
the foremost institutions of higher learning in our country.”
Prof Ewe delivering his speech
In his speech, Prof Ewe said, “UTAR believes in the
collaboration between industry and academics as it is important for
technological innovation and growth. These types of collaboration can
accelerate the frequency of breakthroughs when developing new knowledge
through research and education, and at the same time, provide solutions to
meet society’s needs. By signing this MoU, both parties will be able to
exchange ideas and facilities, staff attachment and mutual visits by staff
members to pursue research, and curriculum development, besides facilitating
participation in industry-related seminars, workshops and conferences.”
The ceremony reached its climax with the signing of
the MoU documents by Prof Ewe and Dato’ Tan, followed by the presentation of
the corporate social responsibility (CSR) video by Greatech Integration (M)
Sdn Bhd, which displayed the types of CSR projects conducted by the company,
such as the Launching of the STEM Empowering Programme. The ceremony ended
with the presentation of a mock cheque worth RM500,000 which will be donated
to UTAR Hospital. The ceremony then witnessed a souvenir exchange between
both parties.

After the ceremony, YB Datuk Lim and the Greatech
representatives were taken for a tour around the robotics showcase set up by
the students from UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science
(LKC FES). The launch of the Greatech laboratory took place on the sixth
floor of UTAR KB Block where the ribbon-cutting and plaque unveiling
ceremony ensued. The launch ended with another group photo session and a
tour around the lab.
