HKU visits UTAR

Delegates from Hungkuang University (HKU) visited UTAR Sungai Long Campus on 19 August 2022. The delegates were HKU Vice President Dr Tsong-Min Chang, Dean of Office of International Affairs Dr Tiger Tien and Secretary Peyton Lee.

They were welcomed by UTAR Division of Community and International Networking (DCInterNet) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Prof Dr Alan Ong Han Kiat, FMHS Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Assoc Prof Dr Leong Pooi Pooi, Centre for Research in Traditional Chinese Medicine Chairperson Assoc Prof Dr Te Kian Keong, Pre-clinical Sciences Department Head and Centre for Cancer Research Chairperson Dr Ong Hooi Tin, Centre for Extension Education Director Assoc Prof Ir Dr Lim Jee Hock and Department of Student Affairs Head of Sungai Long Campus Loh Nyuk Leung.

The visit aimed to build rapport and reinforce areas of collaboration between UTAR and HKU.

The meeting commenced with Dr Lai expressing a warm welcome to the delegates and thanking HKU for introducing Taiwan during the Magallanes World Study Tour, a virtual tour that was conducted last year via Zoom. Dr Chang, on the other hand, gave an introduction about HKU and its developments. He believes that they could collaborate in many areas with UTAR. He also took the opportunity to extend an invitation to UTAR staff to visit HKU someday. During the meeting, both campuses presented their corporate videos which enhanced their understanding of the overall development of the two universities.

Meeting in progress

An in-depth discussion was carried out between the two parties regarding possible areas of collaboration which included student exchange programmes, summer camps, short courses, internship programmes and faculty collaboration. Both parties looked forward to furthering collaboration in the future.

The meeting then ended with a souvenir exchange and a group photography session, followed by a campus tour to Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science and FMHS, which was led by Dr Lai and Dr Leong respectively.
