FAS lecturer receives letter of appreciation from Chief Police Officer of Perak
Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman Faculty of Arts and Social Science Assoc Prof Dr Cheah Phaik Kin received a Letter of Appreciation from YDH CP Dato’ Sri Mohd Yusri bin Haji Hassan Basri, Chief Police Officer of Perak on 21 December 2022 at the Chief Police Officer of Perak Monthly Assembly held at the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters in Ipoh.
Dr Cheah, a Lance Corporal in the Royal Malaysia Police Volunteer Reserve (PVR) (Sukarelawan Simpanan Polis Diraja Malaysia) received the Letter of Appreciation together with 18 fulltime police officers at the event that was attended by Head of Special Branch of Perak YDH SAC Dato’ Pahlawan Shazeli bin Dato’ Kahar and Head of Crime Investigation Department of Perak YDH SAC Luqman bin Abdul Rahman, and also attended by heads of department, senior police officers, police officers, and civilian staff of the Perak Contingent.
YDH CP Dato’ Sri Mohd Yusri praised Dr Cheah for her efforts to research on the police volunteer reserves in Malaysia. “We are also proud to have Dr Cheah represent the PDRM in the international arena,” he added, referring to her recent presentations of her scholarly work in conferences and research meetings in the United Kingdom. “Her dedication and commitment to serve as and research about PVR since she entered the force in 2014 have bore fruit. This shows her dedication and commitment to the work that she does,” he said.
“PDRM appreciates the pool of talent that PVR officers bring to the force. In Perak, there are about 429 PVR officers who come from all walks of life. They are from diverse backgrounds and have a multitude of talents. It is indeed a privilege to have a strong PVR force who can contribute and complement our efforts to fight and prevent crime. Polis dan masyarakat berpisah tiada (Translate: Police and the community are inseparable),” he said.
In his speech, he expressed his gratitude to all police officers in the Perak Contingent for their efficiency and contributions maintaining public order and security in Perak, especially during the recent general elections.
Dr Cheah said the Letter of Appreciation came as a surprise to her. “I am grateful to the PDRM for supporting me in my research efforts, without which it would not have been possible. Appreciation from YDH CP Dato’ Sri Mohd Yusri also signifies his recognition and acknowledgement of all the service, sacrifices and contributions from all my fellow PVR officers in Perak,” she quipped.
