On 4 December 2022, a group of 26 international students together with Student Exchange Programme (SEP) Inbound Coordinator Sindy Choong and Centre for Extension Education (CEE) Instructors Elene Cheong Yong Yong and Najihah binti Pazaer took part in a short excursion to visit a few famous tourist spots in Perak, namely Taiping, Ipoh and Gopeng.

Upon arriving at Taiping Lake Gardens, students happily strolled around the Rain Tree Walk, one of the main attractions, admiring the picturesque view of the lush trees and large brimming lakes nearby.

After a breeze walk at Taiping Lake Gardens, they decided to try out the food from a restaurant in Taiping famous for its authentic Hainanese cuisines such as Hainanese Chicken Chop and coffee. Then, after a scrumptious breakfast, they walked to the local ‘Cendol’ stall to get their hands on ‘Cendol’ – a well-loved Malaysian cold desert perfect to be eaten during a hot sunny day. Finally, before they continued their journey to the rest of the places, the students bought some banana fritters to be enjoyed on the bus.

At their next stop, the students got to experience one of the iconic limestone temple caves in Ipoh, Perak – Kek Lok Tong. The magnificent Buddhist statues and the heavenly view of the cave mesmerised the students. Most of them complimented the cave’s unique limestone structure and abundant foliage surrounding the area.

Their next adventure was at Gopeng Gaharu Valley. The students were driven around the tea valley to learn about the benefits of Gaharu trees. A guide accompanied the students and briefly explained the origins and uses of the Gaharu trees. Before returning to Kampar, the students taste the cold and refreshing Gaharu ice cream. They also did not miss the chance to purchase some souvenirs as gifts for their family and friends.

After a tiring but fruitful journey, the students had a hearty meal at Grand Kampar Hotel before calling it a day. Finally, they headed back to the hostel with some unforgettable memories to be cherished.
