Ts Ng during the webinar

Ts Ng said, “Metal does not occur in its original condition. The process of extracting metals consists of three basic phases which are the concentration of ore, the extraction of metal from the concentrated ore and the refinement of impure metal. The common types of corrosion are general corrosion, pitting, corrosion under insulation, crevice corrosion, galvanic attach, erosion, cavitation, fretting, stress corrosion cracking and corrosion fatigue.”

Prof Wee during his presentation

The second webinar titled “Sports science in your life” was presented by TAR UMT Prof Dr Wee Eng Hoe. He spoke about sports science, careers in sports science, how sports science affects an individual, key areas in sports science, the importance of sports science, diet and nutrition as well as positive mental being.

Prof Wee explained, “Sports science applies to the study of science to sporting activities as it concerns with the understanding and enhancement of human performance through the application of scientific principles. It is used to identify strengths and weaknesses so training programmes can be individualised for everyone. The five key areas in sport science are psychology, physiology, biomechanics, motor control and learning, and biometrics.”

Dr Lim explaining about a research project

TAR UMT Dr Lim Siew Mooi spoke about the recommender system, data science life cycle, hardware and software requirements, system design, product recommender system for iBeli.com and other related work in her session titled “Intelligent product recommender for the iBeli.com online shopping platform using content-sharing based filtering techniques”. She said, “Recommender system is a computer program that sorts the company’s resources based on algorithms and recommends products or services to customers based on many factors that interest the users.”
