In conjunction
with Valentine’s Day, the e-Talentime Competition 2022, themed ‘Love’, was
exclusively held for UTAR Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
(MBBS) students on 14 February 2022. With talents in singing, playing
instruments and drawing, UTAR MBBS students proved that they had more than
medical knowledge and surgical skills to offer.
The
competition provided a platform for the students to have fun while winning
some cash prizes. The judges consisted of academics from Faculty of Medicine
and Health Sciences Prof Dr Jenny Parameshvara Deva, Faculty of Creative
Industries (FCI) Department of Modern Languages Head Maxwell Sim Yik Seng
and Department of Soft Skills Competency (DSSC) of Sungai Long Campus
Nurzanatul Amira binti Azizan.
The
competition saw five finalists performing and showcasing their talents, such
as singing, playing the piano, singing and playing the guitar and drawing on
the phone case.

Prof Jenny
Deva expressed her gratitude and said, “Thank you everyone for showing your
support and participating in this event. Most people feel that medical
students are always glued to books, but nowadays with the exposure of the
internet and so on, there is much more knowledge to share and obtain other
than medical things. This is an avenue that has been created by the soft
skills department for the extension of our personality so that we can become
more balanced. Today, all of us will witness the talents of our MBBS
students. They have proven that they are not only good in their studies but
also very much talented.”
The result is as follows:
First Place (Trophy + e-cert + RM50): Yeak Yi Xuan
Second Place (e-cert + RM50): Wong Lee Chee
Third Place (e-cert + RM50): Lam Keat Nam

Department of
Soft Skills Competency (DSSC) Head of Sungai Long Campus Fook Oi Yee said
during her closing, “I would like to thank Prof Jenny for her continuous
support. She encourages more medical students to join the soft skills
programmes and activities. Today, we all have witnessed that our medical
students are not only good in academics but also soft skills. I would like
to say well done to all the participants. Congratulations to all the winners
once again!”
