FBF Adjunct Professor shares the history of Malaysian Public Administration Structure

UTAR Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) received a visit from Prof Dr Mooi Wah Kian, the newly appointed Adjunct Prof for the Bachelor of Public Administration (Honours) programme, on 7 January 2022. Upon his arrival, Prof Mooi was greeted by Dean of Faculty of Business and Finance Assoc Prof Dr Au Yong Hui Nee and the faculty management committee members.

Also present during the visit were Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Assoc Prof Dr Choong Yuen Onn, Deputy Dean for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Dr Peter Tan Sin Howe, Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Yew King Tak, Head of Marketing Department Choy Johnn Yee, Head of Business and Public Administration Siti Fazilah binti Abdul Shukor, Head of Finance Department Dr Kuah Yoke Chin, Head of Commerce and Accountancy Department Sonia Johanthan, Head of MBA (Corporate Management) Programme Dr Choe Kum Lung, Head of Postgraduate Programmes Dr Leong Lai Ying, and FBF academics Premkumar Nadarajan and Thurai Murugan Nathan.

Prof Mooi delivered a talk during the visit. He shared the importance of the Malaysian public policy and society’s expectations; the history of the administrative structure of the Malaysian public administration, the overview of the Malaysian constitution, the current structure of the Malaysian public administration and the various public policies introduced in Malaysia.

Apart from this, Prof Mooi also provided several suggestions to FBF on how to make the programme— Bachelor of Public Administration more unique and attractive to the community and students. 

Prof Mooi has 27 years of public service experience. He also has vast experience in the Federal Government. He is a retired senior government officer working as a senior trainer in the National Public Administration Institute (INTAN), a former director in charge of Government Quality Movement in Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), Prime Minister’s Department and former undersecretary in the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Malaysia (MOSTI).
