The opening ceremony of the exchange activity

UTAR inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chengdu Institute Sichuan International Studies University (中国四川外国语大学成都分院) to foster closer academic ties and student mobility. The event took place in conjunction with an exchange activity held between the two universities on 16 and 17 May 2022.

In his remarks, UTAR President Ir Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat said, “This collaboration strengthens the connection and communication between the two countries in the field of higher education, and continuously builds a cooperation platform to provide more opportunities for both staff and students to study abroad, as well as practising internships and working overseas.”

On the other hand, Vice President of Chengdu Institute Sichuan International Studies University Shen Guanglin said, “Our University will work hand in hand with Malaysian universities. I hope that our university’s Malay language programme will become the most competitive Malay language talent training cradle in the country. In addition, we could formulate talent training standards according to market demand to present the talents’ characteristics—language communication, ability to strengthen foreign trade and economy, and enhance students’ cross-cultural communication skills, making it a bridgehead for economic and cultural exchanges between China and Malaysia.”

During the exchange activity, UTAR International Student Service Centre (拉曼大学留学生服务中心) Director Yu Feng gave a presentation to help participants gain a better understanding of studying, interning and working in Malaysia. The event also featured performances of different cultures presented by university students. Participants also got the chance to taste Malaysians’ specialities— making traditional kites, trying out henna tattoos and activities that allowed them to further understand the folk culture of Malaysia. The event also saw an award ceremony for students who won competitions such as the Malaysian Word King Competition and the Malaysian Cultural Knowledge Competition.
