Career talk for holistic development of youths

Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) in collaboration with UTAR Department of Student Affairs (DSA) organised The Career Industrial Talk on 21 June 2022 at Kampar Campus. Gracing the event were Penang State EXCO Member for Youth & Sports Soon Lip Chee, UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, General Manager of PYDC Dr Gwee Sai Ling, Human Resource Executive of UWC Berhad Jay Tan Jun Yu, guests from PYDC and students.

Prof Choong started his welcome speech by thanking PYDC for their efforts in initiating this career industrial talk event. He then began explaining the establishment of UTAR, UTAR New Village Community Project and UTAR Community and Voluntary Engagement Programme (UTAR CARE) which involved diverse kinds of community engagement activities to ensure the students fully embraced the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the next 10 years.

Soon spoke about the Penang Strategic State Development Plan (PENANG 2030) and its strategic initiatives which concerns the well-being of Penang state and its people for the next five to 10 years. He said, “Penang state outshined the nation’s list in 2021 with the highest investments record. Therefore, this state is looking for more youth talents.” Soon also encouraged the students to apply for a job vacancy at PYDC through its career portal. Lastly, he mentioned that PYDC is looking forward to collaborating with UTAR by inviting companies from Penang to hold a career fair at UTAR.

Dr Gwee first gave a detailed introduction on PYDC and their strategic determinations to develop young people holistically. She then shared steps to bridge the employers and students via PYDC’s career portal. She also advised the students to come forward with their projects and collaborate with PYDC for more benefits.  She then proceeded to explain the industry outlook in Penang state.

On the other hand, Tan gave a presentation, introducing UWC Berhad and the various programmes it offers to its employees. “Youngsters should have precision on which career path to choose. Students are invited to apply for a job at UWC Berhad,” he advised.

The talk ended with a souvenir presentation. It was followed by a lively quiz session, Q&A session and photography session.
