Identifying innate personality for suitable career

Aw during the talk

A webinar titled Colourful Life 2.0: Discover Your Career Colour was conducted on 10 June 2022 via Microsoft Teams in conjunction with the Counselling Wellness Week 2022.  Invited to speak at the webinar was Doctor of Philosophy candidate Aw Chan Yann, a fully accredited forensic psychologist at the British Psychological Society. She also specialises in psychotherapy workshops.

The webinar aimed to assist participants in identifying their innate personalities so that they could decide on a suitable career. The talk began with an icebreaker activity where the speaker and the participants exchanged information regarding their favourite colours.

Aw explaining the work style of the person with the code colour red

The virtual talk started with Aw introducing participants to Taylor Hartman’s code colour personality assessment. According to her, it is a powerful tool to discover the driving core motive of an individual. She said, “Everyone has to identify their career colour as a way to better understand what drives them in finding their career pathway and also elevate their communication skills and the spirit of working in a team.” Speaking about the dominant colours or colour codes, Aw explained, “A person will have to go through a plethora of questions to identify what colour code he or she is.” The participants were then asked to answer 45 questions online to identify their code colour.

Aw continued by explaining the different dimensions of the four colour codes that constitute the Hartman colour code personality assessment, namely red, yellow, white and blue. “Red is inspired by power, blue is inspired by intimacy, white is inspired by peace and yellow is inspired by fun,” said Aw. Some of the careers suitable for the colour red are police officer, lawyer and administrator; careers suitable for the colour blue are direct care professional, nurse and teacher; careers suitable for the colour white are veterinarian, forest ranger and archaeologist, and careers suitable for the colour yellow are firefighter, actor and counsellor,” Aw elucidated. Following that, Aw shared the characteristics represented by each colour code as well as the combination of two colour codes involved in the Hartman Personality Profile.

Aw presented 45 questions to assess participants’ code colour

Finally, she concluded her talk by explaining that Taylor Hartman’s code colour personality assessment is a fruitful tool for employers to organise their employees according to the right departments or type of work for better work productivity.

The webinar came to an end with a Q&A session and a group photography session.
