Pei Yuan High School students visit Kampar Campus

A group of visitors from Pei Yuan High School, Kampar visited UTAR Kampar Campus on 20 July 2022. Among the visitors were IT Department Head Seum Teng Fai, Academic Affairs Department Deputy Head Lai Tat Chuan, teachers Chai Li Wei and Lim Kean Jin, and 65 students.

They were welcomed by UTAR Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) Deputy Dean for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Assoc Prof Dr Wong Wun Bin along with ICS Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Dr Ling Liong Ngo, I Culture Berhad representatives and ICS students.

The visit aimed to provide a platform for students to learn about the programmes offered in UTAR, the study life in UTAR as well as the environment at UTAR. It also aimed to build rapport and promote mutual understanding between UTAR and Pei Yuan High School besides discussing opportunities for future collaboration. The visit was held as part of the Kampar Cultural and Historical One Day Tour, an outdoor activity organised for Pei Yuan High School students.

The visit kicked off with an introduction session by Division of Programme Promotion Assistant Manager Chin Yuon Loong who shared the background of UTAR; its two campuses; the programmes it offers; financial aids; tuition fees and living expenses, to name a few.

Furthermore, Dr Wong conducted a talk titled Chinese Studies, Cultural Inheritance and Employment Market (中文系、文化传承与市场就业). During the talk, he took the opportunity to introduce ICS and the Department of Chinese Studies; share the uniqueness and the importance of Chinese Studies; clarify the connection between Chinese Studies and cultural inheritance; explain student cultivation and the employment prospects of Chinese Studies graduates. The talk enabled students to learn more about Chinese Studies. He also welcomed and encouraged the students to join UTAR ICS.

He revealed, “Chinese Studies graduates are not limited to a certain industry and they have a wide range of opportunities to develop in various fields such as culture and education, politics, performing arts, media, publishing, business, diplomacy and many others. Most importantly, the Chinese Studies programme cultivates students who can attach importance to moral education, character and attitude towards others and students with thinking ability, writing ability, aesthetic appreciation ability, organisation and communication ability, which will be beneficial to them in the future.

The visit ended with a souvenir presentation and a group photo session.
