Invited to deliver the webinar was Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad Chief Executive Officer Lim Eng Seong. In his talk, Lim first introduced Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad and noted that the company, which was established in 1924, would be celebrating its 100 years old in two years. He said, “In the last two years, the pandemic has disrupted the way we work, the way we go about doing things; things that we take for granted in the past, are no longer possible, for example, travelling and going to the office.”

“About a year and a half ago, when we launched the Prudential Values, we expected each and every employee of Prudential to embrace internalisation and hoped that they would use it as a guide. These five Prudential values will not only help us to navigate the hybrid world but also achieve our strategic goal,” he said.

The five values that he highlighted were being ambitious, empathetic, curious, courageous, and nimble. “Being ambitious is about having an aspiration goal, being committed to it, being determined to get it and being driven and enthusiastic. Set yourself a certain standard, try to achieve it and push yourself above your personal limit. The second value is curiosity. Power of listening, thirst for knowledge, and having an open mind to accept new ideas. Every employee should have this to help create better solutions and overcome challenges,” he explained.

He continued, “Be a good person and a great listener. Recognise other people’s emotions and have compassion for them. Put yourself in other people’s shoes. Look for common items and common agenda. Always remember win-win solutions and win-win approaches. The next value is about being courageous. Be adventurous, embrace challenges and be confident to try. The last value is being nimble. Be flexible, practise quick thinking and be resilient.” The webinar ended with a Q&A session, followed by a group photography session.

Lim has more than 25 years of combined experience in the banking, insurance and FMCG industries, holding international senior leadership roles in the Philippines, Thailand and Hong Kong. He leads Prudential’s life insurance business in Malaysia which currently serves close to 2 million customers and is responsible for growing Prudential’s footprint in Malaysia. Before joining Prudential, he was the former Deputy CEO of HSBC Malaysia and Executive Director of HSBC Amanah Takaful and he was involved in building its Islamic bank and takaful entities.
