A group of 30 Bachelor of Communication (Honours) Public Relations (PR) students from UTAR Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FAS) successfully carried out a mural project titled “Our Colourful Campus, Our Beautiful Home” on 28 April 2022 at UTAR Kampar Campus. The mural project was part of the UTAR PR Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project.

The students divided themselves into three groups to complete the mural drawings and paintings. It took around two months for the group to accomplish their project. The students sketched the murals and painted them in four main areas, namely the Main Library, FAS Building, cafeteria and bicycle parking.

When asked about what inspired the group to lead the project, William Wong Kwan Wei, the project director stated, “Other groups chose to serve the community, so we chose to serve the University. We have always wanted to make a contribution that would benefit the university and the students. As a result, we came up with a proposal to repaint some of the old facilities, such as the bicycle parking lots and the unpainted library light box at Kampar Campus. The proposal also included a mural painting at FAS Building and cafeteria.”

This project is under the main UTAR PR CSR Project 2022, carried out by a total of 80 PR undergraduates from the January Trimester 2022 to fulfil the coursework requirement of a course – UAMP3084 Corporate Social Responsibility. The students were divided into eight groups to carry out various CSR projects concerning economic, environmental and social demands in meeting the needs of the local community members and promoting environmental sustainability to improve the lives of the people in Perak.
