Another successful UNVCP exhibition

Another successful UNVCP exhibition

The third UTAR New Village Community Project (UNVCP) Exhibition was successfully held, in conjunction with UTAR’s 20th anniversary, from 7 to 9 April 2022 at UTAR Kampar Campus and via online.

The success of the exhibition was celebrated with a closing ceremony. It was graced by Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, representing UTAR President Ir Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat.

Prof Choong thanking the exhibitors, participants and visitors for supporting the exhibition

Prof Choong said, “The exhibition was initially set to be held in 2019. Unfortunately, the pandemic halted our plan and so it had to be postponed for two years. To be able to organise this exhibition today is truly a joy for us because it is one of the ways for us to further promote the New Villages of Malaysia. There are over 500 New Villages in Malaysia, and in collaboration with these New Villages and various industrial and educational institutions, our students have surveyed and produced reports; highlighting the uniqueness of the New Villages. Most of the products exhibited here are also specialities originated from the respective New Villages.”

He added, “Some of the New Villages also run their small/medium businesses on e-commerce. In fact, in China, e-commerce is found to help reduce poverty among its people. To extend our help to these New Villages’ e-commerce businesses, we have conducted trainings and workshops for our students to learn about the ways to take full advantage of the benefits and functions of e-commerce, so they can share and pass on the knowledge and skills to the new villagers. As we celebrate the success of this exhibition, I would like to extend our gratitude to the sponsors and exhibitors for their support towards our exhibition.”

The objectives of the exhibition were to showcase the efforts and achievements of UNCVP; acknowledge contributions from sponsors and volunteers; promote the uniqueness of New Villages; introduce upcoming sustainable New Village projects and promote community collaborations on sustainable development.

Other attractions at the exhibition also included talk series, forum series, public speaking competition, and cultural performance. New Villages that support the exhibition included Kampung Timah, Kuala Kuang, Lawan Kuda, Malim Nawar, Mambang Diawan, New Kopisan and New Wah Loong. Among the products that were exhibited were clog, corn, ornamental fish, rice cracker, pounded tea, QCI aerosol, QCI mosquito coil, ready-to-brew coffee fruit tea, Liberia Coffee Blossom, Se Woh chilli sauce, Se Woh Superior sauce and Se Woh Premium soy sauce.
