The Department of Alumni Relations and Placement (DARP) organised an Alumni Get Together session with UTAR President Ir Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat on 12 March 2022 via Microsoft Teams.
The session began
with Prof Ewe’s speech, in which he stated that the majority of universities
with medical studies are eager to have their own hospital facilities. He
also mentioned that many teaching hospitals and medical centres are known
for their medical research. “Close collaboration with medical schools and
universities could improve the teaching hospitals’ research initiatives,”
said Prof Ewe.
Speaking of
UTAR’s progress amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he stated that the tutorial and
practical lessons were held on physical mode despite giving students the
option to pick online mode. He also proudly highlighted that 99 per cent of
the students and staff in UTAR had completed their vaccinations, including
boosters. In addition, he mentioned that both Kampar and Sungai Long
Campuses were used as PPV centres where a total of 380,000 persons were
successfully vaccinated.
He also said that
UTAR’s website serves as an inspirational learning platform for the
students. According to him, this platform offers many free online courses,
and upon completing the quizzes and assignments in the portal, students will
be able to obtain a certificate. Next, he shared about a new project called
the Tree adoption Project which aims to raise funds for the UTAR Hospital.
The project, according to Prof Ewe, is held in collaboration with the UTAR
Alumni Association of Malaysia.
At the end of the
session, DARP staff
NNaaresh Arumugam played a video, showcasing
the UTAR Hospital. It was followed by a group photo session.
