UTAR Public Relations Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project Group 7 held the opening ceremony of the reading corner for the Persatuan Pusat Jagaan Kasih Sayang Kampar on 9 April 2022. Head of Department of Public Relations of UTAR Faculty of Arts and Social Science Bazlin Darina binti Ahmad Tajudin and the charity sales initiator Daniel Wa Wai How were invited to the reading corner opening ceremony.
UTAR PR CSR 2022 Group 7 consisted of 10 students and they were led by lecturer-cum-advisor Diong Fong Wei. The group successfully conducted Let’s Shine for Hope Project in Persatuan Pusat Jagaan Kasih Sayang Kampar.
The CSR project aimed at improving the condition of Persatuan Pusat Jagaan Kasih Sayang Kampar and increasing the visibility of the centre to provide better living conditions for children. In addition, the reading corner was set up to provide the children in the centre with a better learning environment and stimulate their enthusiasm for learning.
Persatuan Pusat Jagaan Kasih Sayang Kampar is a newly established children’s shelter in Kampar. It is a non-profit, non-political and non-religious children’s shelter. This centre was formed to help vulnerable children and children from poor families. Currently, the centre has five children and all of them are from different backgrounds.
In this project, Group 7 initiated preloved item donations, volunteer recruitment and charity sales. The group successfully raised about RM6,000 for the centre through the preloved item donations and charity sales. This event was also strongly supported by Daniel Wa Wai How, the charity sales initiator. He assisted in convening kind-hearted people to sponsor the charity sales at Pasar Pagi Kampar.
The person-in-charge of Persatuan Pusat Jagaan Kasih Sayang Kampar Yee Kah Yin said, “No matter how poor you are, you can’t be poor in education and no matter how hard you are, you can’t be hard on children. The centre mainly takes in some single-parent families and vulnerable children with mild disabilities. The vision of our centre is to provide the children with a complete home and a good environment.”
She was grateful for the plans Group 7 had set for the centre. She said, “Thanks to the support given by the kind-hearted people, the children can have better home equipment.” She was also grateful to Daniel Wa Wai How and the sponsors for their strong support during the charity sales.
Moreover, the volunteer recruitment will continue to run after the event, so that generous people can continue to support Persatuan Pusat Jagaan Kasih Sayang Kampar.
