Khor’s winning sketch— fourth place in the Sketch category

It was a celebratory moment for UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) students Liew Yu Qian and Khor Mei when they won prizes at the Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad Photography & Sketch Competition 2022.

The competition was divided into two categories— The Photography category and The Sketch category. Liew participated in the Photography category whereas Khor participated in the Sketch category. They won fourth place respectively and took home RM100 each.

Celebrating the 114th year of Masjid Jamek Kuala Lumpur, the competition was organised by Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM), supported by the International Council on Monuments and Sites Malaysia (ICOMOS) and sponsored by Kelab Pembangunan Profesionalisme Arkitek Kuala Lumpur & Selangor (BeAr United).

The competition was open to students studying architecture programmes in Malaysia and PAM student members. The students were required to submit a digital photograph of architecture photograph or activity with a building background of Masjid Jamek captured using a smartphone for the Photography category; a sketch in A3 or A4 paper of the Masjid Jamek architecture details or components sketch for the Sketch category.

The panel juries of the Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad Photography & Sketch Competition 2022 for the Photography category were Ar Dr Mohd Firrdhaus Mohd Sahabuddin, Ar Norzaiti Ahmad Zubaidi and Ar Arif Fadli Che Musa, while the panel juries for the Sketch category were Ar Dr Wan Norisma Wan Ismail, Ar Mohd Rizal Zakaria and Ar Hisham Ali.

The winner of each competition category received RM700 for the first prize, RM400 for the second prize, RM200 for the third prize and RM100 for the fourth to the sixth prize. The artwork of the first prize winner will also be published as a postcard and special edition stamps. The A1 size of the postcard and special edition stamps will be printed and presented at the launch ceremony at Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad Gallery.

Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM), also known as the Malaysian Institute of Architects, is a national professional institute representing architects in Malaysia. The mission statement of the Institute is “To promote the advancement of architecture and the architectural profession for the betterment of society”.
