Prof Dato’ Ewe thanking Choice Foundation and International Confederation of Moral Uplifting Societies

Prof Dato’ Ewe thanked Choice Foundation and International Confederation of Moral Uplifting Societies in his speech, and also said, “UTAR Hospital is part of the growth and expansion of UTAR as a private university for the people by the people. Just as UTAR was set up as a not-for-profit university to provide quality affordable education to the people, UTAR Hospital will also be a not-for-profit private hospital providing affordable and quality medical services to the people. This Hospital will also provide education and training for medical students and conduct medical research for the advancement of medicine and healthcare. The construction of the Hospital will cost RM330 million and UTAR seeks the support of the community to participate in our fundraising efforts. The T&CM Centre began its operation in April 2022 with over 9,000 patients’ visits for outpatient services within the first six months, and the operation of western medicine is planned to start in early 2023. This was made possible thanks to everyone - the community, the public, the donors, organisations and companies for coming forward over the years with generous donations to help build this Hospital, which will also serve the community by providing quality affordable medical and health services.”

He added, “In addition to today’s donations, UTAR is also truly grateful to Choice Foundation for offering scholarships to support UTAR Foundation and Bachelor Honours degree programme students of low-income families, who have also excelled in both their academic studies and extra-curricular activities. The scholarship was established in 2018 in UTAR, and since then, a total of 17 UTAR students from both Kampar and Sungai Long Campuses have benefitted from this scholarship. The scholarship covers full tuition fees, monthly allowance and accommodation allowance for the tenure of the scholarship.”

Datuk William Toh giving an introduction on Choice Foundation

Datuk William Toh said, “It was good to be back in UTAR Kampar. Choice Foundation was founded by a group of five individuals and it was incorporated in April 2014. The sole existence of Choice Foundation was to provide a choice to the underprivileged children and single mothers. We believe every human deserves a choice, or what would some called as chance. We have since provided many scholarships and financial assistance to students, including fully sponsoring their tuition fee, and paying for their accommodation. We also believe underprivileged children should not go hungry, and therefore we decided to extend our generosity to provide RM500 pocket money every month to the students.”

He added, “Every success and achievement start with a dream, and to me, the UTAR Hospital started off as a dream, and Tun Ling and his team had the vision and belief that they could succeed. From this project I also learn that great leadership can make anything possible. My heartiest congratulations on the UTAR Hospital project for turning a dream into a reality.”

Mr Lee complimenting UTAR for setting up its own hospital to serve the community

Meanwhile, Mr Lee spoke, “The purpose of the International Confederation of Moral Uplifting Societies is to promote moral education, guide people to do good, and accumulate virtue. The concrete manifestation of morality is nothing but love, care, and dedication. UTAR offers MBBS programme and the setting up of its own hospital is indeed suitable because it will provide opportunities for financially underprivileged students to study medicine programme, and eventually to realise their dreams of becoming a doctor, who will serve the community, as well as to provide quality and affordable medical services to the general public in Kampar and Perak. This goal is certainly in line with the spirit of our Federation. We also hope that this donation will serve as a good starting point to attract more associations and the public to support and contribute to the UTAR Hospital.” Mr Lee also urged the member and division of the confederation, and other associations to support the fundraising of UTAR Hospital.
