A visit to Talentcorp Malaysia

UTAR Global Economics Society, along with UTAR Belt and Road Strategic Research Centre (BRSRC) and Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) jointly organised a visit to Talent Corporation (TalentCorp) Malaysia Berhad on 3 November 2022. The visit saw the participation of 35 students and six staff.

The students were welcomed by TalentCorp Sector Head for STEM Talent, Industry Partnership Sarah Waheeda, who also brought them around for an office tour. The visit aimed to increase students’ awareness of the current labour market demands and needed skills, and expose them to the real work-life environment.

UTAR Global Economics Society Advisor Low Choon Wei said, “Students need to be exposed to real working environment. They also need to engage with industry experts to gain valuable input of the latest labour market information to stay relevant at all times.”

TalentCorp Lead Campus Engagement Ardi Gunsuh presented a talk titled “Self-awareness and Career Roadmap”. He shared the background of TalentCorp; the programmes offered; his work experience, as well as the current graduate employability during the talk. He said, “Graduate employability has increased from 84.4 per cent in 2020 to 85.5 per cent in 2021.” “Students need to take note of the importance of being self-aware. Be aware of the changes in the market, branding and gain more experience during your journey in the university,” advised Ardi.

Next, TalentCorp Industry Partnership Sector Head S. Annapooranee shared her topic titled “Financial, Accounting & Global Business Services Talent Landscape”. She spoke about factors of underemployment among graduates, top growing skills and skills needed for the current market trend. Sharing the summary findings of the Critical Occupational Lists (COLs), she said “From the MyCOL 2020/2021, a total of 42 high-skilled occupations was listed as critical and in demand, including finance managers, mechanical engineers, system analysts, and software developers. Eighty-six per cent of the newly listed occupations are digital professionals, such as cybersecurity professionals and creative content designer professionals.”
