Chong Hwa Independent High School visits UTAR Kampar Campus

Chong Hwa Independent High School, Kuala Lumpur paid a visit to UTAR Kampar Campus on 14 September 2022. The main purpose of the visit was to build mutual understanding and discuss potential plans and collaborations between UTAR and Chong Hwa Independent High School. For the occasion, a meeting was organised at UTAR Gallery, Heritage Hall building.

The guests from Chong Hwa Independent High School consisted of Board of Directors Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Lim Keng Cheng, Acting Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Gan Yu Chai, Secretary General Wong Chee Keong, Board of Directors members Lee Yow Chee AMN, Tan Son Huat, Sin Hock, Lim Kim Kow and Lee Sau Min; Principal Cheong Moey Lian, Vice Principals Chan Yoke Lee, Lee Sui Ang and Chong Chee Keong; Heads of Administration Ng Hoon Wing and Yong Yi Jiun, and staff.

Welcoming the guests on behalf of UTAR were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, UTAR T&CM Centre Director and Principal Practitioner Assoc Prof Dr Te Kian Keong, Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology Dean Ir Prof Dr Ng Choon Aun, Institute of Chinese Studies Dean Assoc Prof Dr Chong Siou Wei, Faculty of Business and Finance Dean Assoc Prof Dr Au Yong Hui Nee, Faculty of Information and Communication Technology Dean Assoc Prof Ts Dr Liew Soung Yue, Centre for Foundation Studies (Kampar Campus) Director Ts Tan Lee Siew, Faculty of Arts and Social Science Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Kok Hui Meian, Division of Community and International Networking Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn and Deputy Director Dr Chen I-Chi; UTAR and T&CM Centre staff.

The meeting commenced with introductory video presentations from both institutions. During the introductory session, Prof Dato’ Ewe gave a brief introduction about UTAR’s programmes, achievements, and future plans. Meanwhile, Dr Te seized the opportunity to introduce UTAR Hospital’s layout, structure, concepts of exterior and interior design, medical services as well as future plans.

Discussion in progress

Intrigued by the environment of UTAR Kampar Campus, Chong Hwa Independent High School Board of Directors Chairman Tan Sri Lim said, “UTAR Kampar Campus is a beautiful campus. I admire that UTAR utilises green technology such as solar panels to achieve a more carbon-neutral environment.” The principal of the independent high school, Cheong, shared that they are currently focusing on the aspects of agriculture, especially tissue culture.

Furthermore, an in-depth discussion was observed as both parties discussed possible areas of collaboration which included organising talks, webinars, contests and visitations for academic staff and students.

The meeting ended with an exchange of tokens of appreciation and a group photography session.

Previously, in 2018, a group of school teachers from Chong Hwa Independent High School led by Principal Cheong visited UTAR Sungai Long Campus for a discussion.
