The proceeds from the charity night will be allocated to the development of UTAR Hospital. The hospital is still short of RM70million to reach total completion while the total development cost of the hospital is estimated to be RM330million.

Prof Choong emphasising the philosophy “by the people, for the people”

In his remarks, UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong said, “The late founder of Hai-O Enterprise Bhd, Tan Kai Hee, has always been passionate about public welfare. He dedicated himself to the development of Chinese education in Malaysia. His philosophy, “by the people, for the people” is deeply ingrained in the structure of Hai-O Enterprise Bhd. The ‘Ai Hua Jiao’ (爱华教) charity concert campaign launched by Hai-O Foundation has helped many Chinese schools in raising funds for construction and development, benefiting countless Chinese communities.”

He also said, “Since 2002, UTAR has provided high-quality yet affordable education to Malaysian students as our way to express gratitude towards the people and philanthropists who have supported us. Now, we are building a not-for-profit hospital to provide high-quality yet affordable medical services and education in the field of Chinese traditional medicine, Malay traditional medicine, Ayurvedic treatment, and Western medicine. It is entirely built with generous donations and supports from people and philanthropists. Since the launch of UTAR T&CM Centre in April 2022, we have served over 9,000 patients who came from Perlis, Kedah, Johor, Selangor and Penang. The majority, however, came from Kampar.”

He added, “The construction for the hospital is considered done, however, we are still pending approval on the Certificate of Completion (CCC) which we have already applied. We are hoping that we can get the approval by this month. If matters go accordingly as planned, we will proceed with the installation of equipment in the medical block and hopefully, we will be able to open the medical block to the public in the first quarter of 2023, after the Chinese New Year.”

The tickets for the charity night are priced at a starting price of RM200. Donors can also contribute over and above the ticket prices as donations to the hospital. The donors will also be able to partake in a dinner course prepared by the organisers while enjoying the performances by the artistes.

Also present at the roadshow were Hai-O Enterprise Business Operations and Product Development Manager Vicky Cheng, Sin Chew Media Corporation Bhd Communications and Promotion General Manager Tan Kim Chuan, Sin Chew Media Corporation Bhd Promotion Manager of Perak Foong Ching Mean, Sin Chew Media Corporation Bhd Business Development Director of Perak Alan Teh, “Ai Hua Jiao” charity concert Programme Planner Ye Xiao, UTAR Council Member Hew Fen Yee, UTAR staff and students.
