UTAR Accounting Society of Faculty of Business and Finance organised two days-one night “Fun Escape with ACCA” team building event activity from 19 October to 20 October 2022 at My Gopeng Resort.

The team building event activity aimed to promote ACCA among the students; to strengthen the bonding between students, lecturers and ACCA; to increase students’ interest and knowledge in Accounting and ACCA through various activities designed throughout the event; to enhance students’ communication skills, social skills, leadership skills, and teamwork spirit; and raise funds for UTAR Hospital.

After reaching Gopeng Town, the students, who were divided into two groups, prepared for their first outdoor activities which were water rafting and paintball. For the water rafting group, the My Gopeng Resort instructor gave a safety briefing before they started riding the water rafting boats. The participants then began their seven-kilometre white water rafting journey which took about two hours. Meanwhile, for the paintball activity group, the students were divided into three teams, namely Alpha; Bravo and Charlie. The paintball instructor briefed the teams on the correct ways to use the paintball gun and the rules of the game.

An opening ceremony was also held at the Bamboo Hall. The opening speech was delivered by FBF Head of Commerce and Accountancy Department Sonia Jonathan. It was followed by ACCA Sharing Session by Peter Gabriel. The event then continued with ACCA alumnus, Chang Jin Khai sharing his topic titled “Why do I choose to be an ACCA holder” where he shared his experience and advice on the future career pathway of ACCA. Chai currently holds ACCA and MIA membership. He is planning to set up his own accounting firm in the near future. The opening ceremony ended with the presentation of a token of appreciation and a group photograph session.

The activity continued with a scavenger hunt where the participants were divided into five groups to complete all the checkpoints. The Scavenger Hunt aimed to promote communication and teamwork skills, guide students to apply knowledge in a real-life situation, complete tasks in the stipulated time frame and ensure the coordination of tasks. The interactive activities ended with participants having dinner. A campfire session was later held in the night.

Another activity organised for the participants was Fashion Show Competition, which took place at Bamboo Hall. Each group was given one and a half hours to brainstorm their fashion ideas, and showcase the fashion apparel using the 3R items provided at the Scavenger Hunt. Each group model then took turns to do a “catwalk”, brief their fashion ideas and answer some short questions about 3R.

During the closing ceremony, Team Building Programme Director and Emcee Chang Yan Kei, Organising Chairperson Heng Joey and Society Advisor Wong Tai Seng expressed their gratitude to everyone for their contributions and support. An award ceremony was held for Scavenger Hunt and Fashion Show winners, where certificates were presented to all participants.
