The Centre for Foundation Studies (Kampar Campus) organised a virtual talk titled The Roadmap to Becoming a High-Income Earner in Banking and Finance on 27 July 2022 via Microsoft Teams. The webinar was moderated by CFS academic Lionel Keith Vytialingam.

The talk was delivered by Faculty of Business and Finance academic Kong Yin Mei, who has a vast experience in the banking industry. The objective of the virtual talk was to provide participants with some insights into the areas of banking and the services and opportunities offered to bank users.

The virtual talk kick-started with Kong introducing the different areas of banking. She said, “When it comes to banking, the first thing that comes to mind is commercial banks. However, the banking industry has many other areas, namely Islamic banking, wealth management, insurance, financial banking and private equity management.” In addition, Kong also introduced the products offered by these different banking sectors.

Kong then shared the opportunities available in financial services, “The banking and finance industry is a lucrative industry, offering heaps of incentives for those who perform well. A multitude of guides is readily available online for those who would like to find out more about the opportunities in the banking industry. These include The Malaysia Bankers’ Salary guide and Malaysia Salary and Employment Outlook Guide.”

Before ending her talk, Kong encouraged the participants to cultivate positive, hard-working, disciplined and open-minded attitudes before venturing into the banking and finance career after their graduation.
