The M Kandiah
Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (MK FMHS) Department of Nursing
conducted a beach cleaning programme at Pantai Kelanang, Banting, Selangor
with the assistance of Majlis
Perbandaran Kuala Langat. The programme was organised as part of the
Nursing Community Service 2022 to preserve nature and raise awareness about
environmental pollution among the UTAR community and the public.
The event,
which took place on 20 August 2022, saw the participation of 35 students and
five lecturers from MK FMHS, collecting 60kg of garbage consisting of
plastic bags, plastic bottles, glass bottles, foam fragments and other
rubbishes from the beach. All participants wore masks and gloves during the
cleaning for protection. In
addition to beach cleaning, leisure activities were also held to foster
bonding between nursing students and lecturers.
The meaningful
activity also served as a platform for students and staff to improve
teamwork and problem-solving skills besides increasing public awareness of
environmental pollution and social responsibilities towards making the
environment sustainable.
