Knowledge sharing session with filmmaker Amir Muhammad

Amir Muhammad sharing his experiences

On 12 September 2022, the Centre for Media and Communications Research (CMCR) and UTAR Sungai Long Film Club jointly organised a video essay screening and sharing session by Malaysian filmmaker Amir Muhammad at Sungai Long Campus. The event showcased Amir Muhammad’s film essays on four films, namely Menanti Hari Esok, Tiada Esok Bagimu, Esok Masih Ada, and Esok untuk Siapa, which were directed by Malaysian Director Jins Shamsudin.

In addition, Amir Muhammad shared his filmmaking experience, his career journey as well as his passions in life. The sharing session provided the students with a different perspective on individualistic filmmaking styles.

Amir Muhammad is also a film producer, book publisher, and writer. His documentary film, The Big Durian, was the first Malaysian film to screen at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. In 2019, his film production company, Kuman Picture, produced a horror film titled, ‘Roh’ that was selected for an entry to the Academy Awards. He also founded a book publishing company known as FIXI which celebrates the works of Malaysian writers.

Also present at the screening event were CMCR member Raja Rodziah binti Raja Zainal Hassan, Faculty of Creative Industries Head of Programme for Master of Communication Beh Chun Chee, UTAR Film Club President Victor Chen and students.

The session ended with a Q&A session and a photography session.
