The Department of Early Childhood Studies under the
Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI) organised a hybrid seminar titled Early
Childhood Education International Seminar 2022 on 30 August 2022 at UTAR
Sungai Long Campus and via Microsoft Teams, following the theme, Early
Childhood Educators’ Practices.
The seminar was attended by UTAR President Ir Prof
Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Acting Dean of UTAR FCI Dr Cynthia Lau Pui-Shan, Dean
of College of Education and Communication of Tzu Chi University Prof Yun-Chi
Ho, Department of Child Development and Family Studies of Tzu Chi University
Assoc Prof Dr Yali Cheng, Vice Dean of Muhammadiyah University of Sidoarjo
(UMSIDA) Indonesia Ms Effy Wardati Maryam, Dean of Quzhou University Prof
Gui Zhihao, and Principal and CEO of Eight Virtues Montessori Preschool Ms
Alizawati Shafiee.
The opening ceremony kicked off with a speech from
Prof Ewe, who said, “Today’s seminar, themed Early Childhood Educators’
Practices, serves as a platform to bring together leading educators to
exchange ideas and share their experience with a wider research committee
within the Asian region. I am sure our participants will gain immeasurable
insight from this seminar, and I hope that all of you will utilise this
platform to network and engage with academics and industry experts to learn
and exchange experiences.”

Following the speech, Dr Cynthia Lau, Prof Yun-Chi,
Ms Effy Wardati and Prof Gui were invited to give a short presentation about
their respective universities. From there, Prof Yali, who was also the
Keynote Speaker, began her talk titled An Activity-Based Approach to
Inclusive Preschool Curriculum.

The seminar then resumed with presentations and talks
which were held in parallel sessions under three different sub-themes,
namely Early Childhood Education Before and During Pandemic, Cultures and
Regions in Early Childhood Education, and Adaptations of Early Childhood at
Home. Some of the talks that took place under the first sub-theme include
The Challenges of Early Childhood Learning Era Post Covid-19 in Indonesia,
Post Covid-19 Pandemic Ear: A Study on the Curriculum Transformation in
Hualien Da Ai Preschool, and Preschoolers Social and Emotional Development
during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Meanwhile, talks such as Spiritual and Creative
Integrated Training of Excellent Kindergarten Teachers, Interweaving
Numeracy and Truku Cultures in Reading Activities for Truku Preschoolers,
and Sexuality Education for Young Children: Preschool Teachers’ Perceived
Understanding and Challenges, were under the sub-theme— Cultures and Regions
in Early Childhood Education. Finally, the last sub-theme, Adaptations of
Early Education at Home, included two talks, which were Developing Sexuality
Education at Workshops for Preschool Teachers and Parents: An Action
Research Project and Early Childhood Education and Quality of Sleep Among
the Children: A Scoping Review.
The seminar ended with a special presentation by Ms
Alizawati. Titled Parenting Dilemmas in the 21st Century, she
spoke about topics such as the challenges and types of parenting. The
closing ceremony came to an end with a group photography session.
