UTAR Hospital Charity Golf Meet concludes successfully
The UTAR Hospital Charity Golf Meet hosted by UTAR Sungai Long Campus at Sungai Long Golf & Country Club, Kajang, Selangor concluded successfully on 24 September 2022. The event raised more than a million for the hospital.
Organised by Organising Chairman and UTAR Council Member Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Chor Chee Heung, together with his Co-Chairs, UTAR Education Foundation Board of Trustees Member and UTAR Council Member Datuk Lee Leck Cheng, and UTAR Council Member Datuk Lim Si Cheng, the Charity Golf Meet gathered more than 100 golf enthusiasts to participate in the Golf Tournament. The proceeds from the Charity Golf Meet were donated to UTAR Hospital.
Also present at the golf tournament were UTAR Chancellor Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, UTAR Board of Trustee Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Sak Cheng Lum, UTAR Council Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Ting Chew Peh, UTAR Hospital Board Chairman and UTAR Council Member Ir. Academician Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik and UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat.
Tan Sri Chor, in his speech, said, “This Charity Golf Meet is indeed meaningful as it brings together diverse groups of people who value acts of charity above everything else which would, at the end of the day, benefit our multiracial community especially the less fortunate; such as the citizens in the B40 group. The noble ultimate intention of UTAR Education Foundation is to build a fully pledged hospital to further train medical graduates and also to provide very affordable medical care to Malaysians.”
He then moved on to thank all the parties who had contributed to this meaningful cause, “I must not forget to thank our good friend, Dato’ Sri Ir Yap Chong Lee, who, through his Sungai Long Golf and Country Club, sponsored not only the golf course for the golf play; but also, the breakfast and lunch for the golfers and VIPs. This sponsorship has provided the focal point for golfers to gather and play a good game. Thanks to UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and the staff of UTAR who are part of this organising committee. They have given much assistance and support to help coordinate and bring everything together for a smooth event. Most importantly, thank you fellow golfers, donors and sponsors who came forward with a genuine sense of charity, and who truly deserve our acknowledgement and sincere thanks.”
In addition to the RM1,063,000 raised, the event also witnessed various other donations flowing in. Health Lane Family Pharmacy Sdn Bhd presented a mock cheque worth RM200,000 to UTAR Education Foundation; Unihub Auto Sdn Bhd presented a mock cheque worth RM100,000; and Pentens Holdings Sdn Bhd presented a mock cheque worth RM100,000.
Members of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor (KLSCCCI) were also present at the event to present their donation of RM118,000. In addition, Dato’ Tee Kee Tien, Dato’ Lim Char Boo, Mr Roger Lean and Mr Haw En Kui, a team of golfers, put their resources together to donate RM10,000 for this meaningful cause.
Apart from the mock cheque presentations, the event also witnessed a prize-giving ceremony where the competition results were announced; the presentation of tokens of appreciation to sponsors and lucky draw sessions.
Dato’ Sri Ir Yap Chong Lee, through his Sungai Long Golf and Country Club, sponsored the golf course, breakfast and lunch for the golfers. Other donors include the golfers who donated cash, and the sponsors include Bonia Corporation Bhd, Royal Selangor International Sdn Bhd, Maxim Global Berhad, Kaisar Maxim Sdn Bhd, Yong Tai Berhad, Tomei Gold & Jewellery Holdings (M) Sdn Bhd, and more.
