Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) came back with its Final Year Project (FYP) Poster Competition and Industrial Interaction Day for the June 2022 Trimester with more excitement and challenges for the students.
The biannual competition aimed to provide an opportunity for the final year students to demonstrate their independence, originality, and ethics. The event also aimed to help students realise their strengths and weaknesses, cultivate their research interests, and move forward to face the real competitive environment.
The competition saw a total of 55 winning posters from 432 students. The posters were submitted under nine tracks, namely Track one: Architecture and Sustainable Design, Track two: Mathematical and Actuarial Sciences, Track three: Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering, Track four: Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Track five: Internet Engineering and Computer Science, Track six: Quantity Surveying, Track seven: Civil Engineering, Track eight: Mechanical and Material Engineering and Track nine: Chemical Engineering.
The posters were evaluated by 22 judges based on the posters’ appearance, content, organisation and presentation. Furthermore, the Most-liked Poster Award was awarded to the top three posters that attracted the greatest number of likes on Facebook and from the judges. All winners walked away with cash prizes and certificates.
Dr Yap thanking judges and industry partners for their assistance
LKC FES Dean Assoc Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She thanked the judges for taking the time to help with the selection of winners and giving advice to the students. He also thanked all the industry partners who set up booths at the event. He said, “I would like to thank all the industry partners for sharing your information with our students and staff. Industry input creates a healthy balance for students and staff to learn about the latest demands and trends. This would be beneficial for our students when they graduate.”
Dr Yap also said, “I am very happy to note that the response to this 2022 FYP poster competition has been tremendous since the last physical event in 2019. This time, we have close to 400 poster submissions, involving about 430 students in nine tracks. I see that the posters and the contents have also increased in depth. I congratulate all students for these incredible efforts and I hope you will take this opportunity to network and learn from each other in all areas of the projects.”
