ceremony the ASEAN-Oriented “Digital Silk Road” Think Tank Alliance
UTAR was appointed as the chairman
unit institution of the ASEAN-oriented “Digital Silk Road” Think Tank
Alliance (Alliance).
The launching ceremony of the
ASEAN-oriented “Digital Silk Road” Think Tank Alliance was held in
conjunction with the opening ceremony of the 14th China-ASEAN Think Tank
Strategic Dialogue Forum on 20 September 2022.
The Alliance will organise its
chairman institutions and experts to carry out the following activities: the
building and development of the ASEAN-oriented “Digital Silk Road”; the
establishment of an international cooperation network for think tanks, and a
cooperation mechanism for a digital economy research information sharing and
think tank digital exchange; interpretation of digital strategy and digital
new policy, country and industry studies, digital decision-making and
consulting services. These activities aim to strengthen the contacts and
cooperation between alliance members, promote digital application scenarios,
carry forward the Silk Road spirit, and give play to the combined strength
of “Think Tank Wisdom”, “Digital Transformation” and “Silk Road
Construction”. The activities also aim to jointly build a “think tank” for
China-ASEAN Information Harbour with shared benefits, a “think bank” for
high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and an extensive “think tank
community” for country study on China-ASEAN digital economy.

On the same day, UTAR and Guangxi
Academy of Social Sciences (GASS) also signed a memorandum of understanding
(MoU) to forge Think Tank Strategic Cooperation and foster closer academic
ties.
The MoU with GASS was signed by
UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and GASS Dean and Research
Fellow Chen Li Sheng. Under the MoU, both parties will initiate joint
international collaborative research projects and talent training projects,
facilitate academic development exchanges in research and teaching, and
participate in seminars, conferences and workshops. Apart from that, UTAR
and GASS will facilitate student mobility programmes and provide internship
opportunities to enhance students’ learning experiences.

Strategic Dialogue Forum themed
Jointly Building a Closer China-ASEAN Community of a Shared Future
focused on six topics, namely, the new journey and new future of China-ASEAN
comprehensive strategic partnership; new opportunities and challenges of
China-ASEAN economic and trade cooperation under global changes; promoting
the construction of international economic and trade agreements including
RCEP, CPTPP, China-ASEAN Free Trade Area Version 3.0; China-ASEAN digital
economic cooperation; China-ASEAN sustainable development cooperation and
China-ASEAN think tank exchanges.
