Career talk by Huawei

Huawei Day 2022, co-organised by UTAR Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) and Huawei Technologies Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Huawei), was held on 27 and 28 July 2022 at the Heritage Hall Building of UTAR Kampar Campus. The two-day event saw numerous recruiters from Huawei present to carry out interviews for the students and alumni.

The career day offered a platform for students and alumni to achieve their dream jobs and learn about the recruitment process to join Huawei. It also encouraged them to build a connected world together with Huawei by learning innovative technologies to a greater extent.  Furthermore, the event also featured virtual career talks and alumni sharing sessions which took place physically at Kampar Campus and via Microsoft Teams.

The first talk kick-started with an introduction to Huawei by Head of Accounts Receivable Department of Malaysia Accounting Shared Services Centre Kelvin Wong. He said, “Huawei is not only a mobile phone manufacturer, but also a leading provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and ICT solutions which allow Huawei end-users to connect from end-to-end of the world. Bringing digital to every person, home and organisation for a fully connected and intelligent world is the vision and mission of Huawei,” said Wong. According to Wong, more than 250 UTAR alumni are working at Huawei Malaysia currently. After further explanations on the talent acquisition and development of Huawei, Wong ended his talk with the presentation of Huawei’s corporate video and an insightful Q&A session.

On the other hand, Woo said that she had misperceived Huawei as a workplace for those who are proficient in Chinese language. In reality, it is an ideal company for people who speak other languages as well. Khor advised, “Be honest, be proactive and do not exaggerate yourself while answering interview questions; show interviewers the interest you have for the job.”

The talk on the second day was given by Huawei Developer Engineer Tan Wei Chong.  While explaining Huawei Mobile Services (HMS), he mentioned that HMS is a collection of open capabilities which is helpful for mobile app development and empowering digital experiences for its end-users. “At present, there are around 69 HMS kits and around 20,000 Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to allow the developer to build an all-scenario and fully connected app ecosystem,” explained Tan. Tan also shared about the Apps Up Contest 2022 organised by Huawei and encouraged student developers to participate in the contest. He then moved on to talk about the benefits of participating in the Apps Up Contest 2022.
