PR students host workshop for school students

The Hype PR’s workshop was led by a group of 18 undergraduates from UTAR Bachelor of Communication (Honours) Public Relations (PR) programme. They hosted a half-day workshop for 36 graduating students from SMK Sentosa, Kampar to provide them with an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the PR course. The workshop was conducted on 16 March 2023 at SMK Sentosa, Kampar.

In his speech, the Principal of SMK Sentosa, Ghazali said, “Students who are looking for suitable job fields can visit UTAR to explore various disciplines and further understand your interest and strength.” In addition, he hopes that the students can find their passion in college and wishes for the success of this event.

Wong Wei Yuan, the project director of Hype PR’s workshop, expressed his gratitude to the school for providing a platform for high school students to have a unique learning experience. He said, “I hope that this workshop can help students clarify their personalities and explore the joys of being a PR person.”

Meanwhile, UTAR Faculty of Arts and Social Science Department of Public Relations Head Bazlin Darina binti Ahmad Tajudin enthused, “I am pleased to promote UTAR’s Public Relations programme at SMK Sentosa. I hope that the students of SMK Sentosa can benefit from the workshop and gain a better understanding of their future career plans.”

The workshop included an MBTI personality test, situational performances, and a campus tour. The situational performance was the highlight of the workshop. Throughout the discussion and exercises, SMK Sentosa students showed a positive attitude and confidence in speaking and presenting, which can be said to be the talents of the future PR industry. The event was well-received by the attendees, with one student expressing her newfound interest in pursuing PR as a subject.

Seventeen-year-old student Masshitah said, “Thanks to this event, I have a deeper understanding of the job content of PR personnel. They not only maintain the image of the company but also involve various promotional strategies. I find this interesting. I plan to make Public Relations my first choice of subject to pursue.”

In conclusion, the half-day workshop hosted by Hype PR’s, a group of undergraduates from the UTAR Bachelor of Communication (Honours) Public Relations programme, was a resounding success. They successfully promoted the PR course to the graduating students of SMK Sentosa Kampar.

Overall, the event provided a unique learning experience and an opportunity for students to gain a better understanding of the PR industry, showcasing the effectiveness of UTAR’s PR programme in preparing its students for future careers.
