Enhancing ties with THU and THU Alumni Association in Malaysia

A group of delegates from Tunghai University (THU) and Tunghai University Alumni Association in Malaysia visited UTAR Sungai Long Campus on 6 April 2023.

The visit aimed to enhance the ties between UTAR and Tunghai University. It also aimed to discuss opportunities for potential collaboration between both institutions.

The delegates were Tunghai University Vice President Dr Jeng Liu, Tunghai University Chief International Officer for Office of International Relations Dr Min-Hsun Liao, Tunghai University Alumni Association in Malaysia President Mr Yinfa Huang, Tunghai University Alumni Association in Malaysia Financial Director Mr Miaofa Hsieh and Tunghai University Alumni Association in Malaysia Consultant Mr Lu Huazong.

They were welcomed by UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science Dean Assoc Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, Faculty of Accountancy and Management Dean Dr Pok Wei Fong, Centre for Sustainable Architecture Chairperson Dr Lim Poh Im, Division of Community and International Networking (DCInterNet) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, DCInterNet Deputy Director Dr Chen, I-Chi, and Centre for Extension Education Director and Division of Admissions and Credit Evaluation Acting Director Assoc Prof Ir Dr Lim Jee Hock.

The meeting commenced with video presentations from both universities to enhance both sides’ understanding of the overall development of their respective universities. Prof Goi, in his welcome remark, bade a warm welcome to THU and THU Alumni Association in Malaysia. He shared a brief introduction about the University and pointed out some similarities between UTAR and THU so that both parties could work together towards mutual goals. On the other hand, Dr Jeng Liu also expressed his willingness to create a long-term relationship with UTAR. He thanked UTAR for the opportunity given to deepen the communication between both parties. He is looking forward to exploring more areas of collaboration in the future.

In order to develop a deeper understanding and collaboration, the meeting was followed by a presentation from Dr Min-Hsun and Dr Lai. Dr Min-Hsun presented the development of THU and its programme, while Dr Lai gave an overall introduction to UTAR and its faculties. He also presented some examples of the University’s collaborations and activities, and highlighted some areas of potential collaboration.

After an insightful discussion between the two institutions, the visit ended with a souvenir exchange and a group photography session.
