Delegates from
the University of Taipei visited UTAR Sungai
Long Campus on 6 April 2023 to discuss and explore potential areas of
collaboration.
University of Taipei President Dr
Chiu Yin-Hao and Centre of General Education Dean Prof Dr Kuo Chin-Chuan
visited UTAR along with Grand Fortune International Property Sdn Bhd and
Agensi Perkerjaan Haz Sdn Bhd Managing Director Datuk Dr Ting Chung Cheng.
Representing UTAR to welcome the
guests were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Vice President for
Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min,
Division of Community and International Networking (DCInterNet) Director
Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, UTAR Institute of Chinese Studies Dean Assoc
Prof Dr Chong Siou Wei, Centre for Extension Education Director Assoc Prof
Ir Dr Lim Jee Hock, DCInterNet Deputy Director Dr Chen I Chi, Faculty of
Creative Industries (FCI) Department of Modern Language Head Maxwell Sim Yik
Seng, FCI academic Dr Soon Thean Bee and M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and
Health Sciences academic Chew Wai Hoong.
Delivering his welcome speech,
Prof Dato’ Ewe expressed his hope to see both universities cooperate in
short-term and long-term student exchange, sports teams exchange, summer
camp, etc. He also mentioned that UTAR students had a good experience when
they visited the University of Taipei and other universities during their
student exchange programme.
Dr Chiu, on the other hand,
introduced the University of Taipei and shared its history, philosophy,
faculties, students, society, etc. He also singled out the sports department
as the university’s strength and proudly shared that the Tokyo Olympic gold
medallists in badminton Wang Chi-lin and Lee Yang and silver medallist Tai
Tzu-ying are students from the University of Taipei. In addition, he
highlighted that the university is also located in the centre of Taipei
City, with good public facilities around the campus, such as the Central
Library and the Fine Arts Centre, making the whole city a conducive place
for students to study.
The visit ended with a souvenir
exchange and group photography session.
