A
total of 164 Junior 3 students from San Min Secondary School (SUWA), Teluk
Intan took part in an English Camp organised by the Centre for Extension
Education (CEE) of Kampar Campus on 17 April 2023. The fun-filled English
Camp was designed to provide students with an opportunity to enhance their
English language proficiency in a stress-free and supportive environment.

The
camp started with a brief introduction to UTAR, along with an insightful
glance at the programmes offered by UTAR. This introduction was facilitated
by Lee Lin Yee from the Division of Programme Promotion.
The presentation was followed by another briefing on UTAR CEE
programmes such as the English Enhancement Programme (EEP), MUET Preparatory
Course and Inspire@Learning by CEE Head of English Unit P. Mohanambikay. The
camp kicked off with a grammar lesson on subject-verb agreement by Ms V.
Bragathiswary. It was a great opportunity for the students to sharpen their
grammar skills and foster interest in learning English grammar in an
interactive and engaging manner.
Students participating in the Q&A
The
following physical activity was considered one of the camp’s most
anticipated segments as the students got involved in action-packed
mystery-crime-solving station games, led by English instructor Najihah
Pazaer and 15 UTAR student helpers. The students got to experience different
types of hands-on activities which were created to provide a chance for
students to fully immerse and familiarise themselves with English. The
activity was a great success as all the students enjoyed all the games and
were able to practice their language skills in a stress-free and supportive
environment. Students were
encouraged to be bolder and make use of their English without fear of being
embarrassed, providing them with the freedom to experiment with the language
and practice their pronunciation.
Students working together during the station games segment
The
English camp concluded with a finale where the prizes were given to three
groups of students, who achieved the three highest overall scores throughout
the games. The camp ended on a happy note with all the students, teachers as
well as instructors taking part in a group photo-taking session.

CEE
will continue its effort to encourage more students to build confidence
using English and to provide students with a deeper understanding of the
language as well as to enhance their ability to communicate effectively.
