Career talk by Agoda

UTAR Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) organised a career talk on 27 July 2023 at Sungai Long Campus. The talk aimed to provide students with knowledge on the travel industry, resume writing and Linkedin Branding. The speakers were from Agoda, namely University Programme Senior Manager Trish Lowe and Campus Recruitment Specialist Laurencia Bella.

Trish Lowe is an accomplished talent acquisition leader with six years of experience. She is currently serving as the senior manager of Talent Acquisition at Agoda. She has also held key roles at Nasdaq, Microsoft, and Johnson & Johnson, focusing on strategic hiring, recruitment optimisation, and employer branding.

Trish Lowe began the talk by introducing Agoda. She said, “Agoda is a Tech Company who builds travel for the world.” She shared the timeline of world development, highlighting the significance of social media in 2004 and the global recession in 2008, which led people to seek ways to earn and save money, resulting in the rise of online home-sharing. Trish emphasised that Agoda’s foundation is based on the scientific approach of idea, hypothesis, test, and build.

Trish Lowe then explained the benefits and perks of working at Agoda, which included an Employee Assistance Programme, online learning initiatives, travel discounts, restaurant discounts, and more, fostering a supportive and rewarding working environment. Moreover, she explained the application process of applying for a job at Agoda and shed light on the career path of a Customer Experience Specialist at Agoda, elucidating the various opportunities and growth prospects within the role.

Laurencia Bella then led the Q&A session, where students actively asked questions. Laurencia Bella answered each of the questions and shared her career experience. Furthermore, she introduced resume and CV writing, highlighting the key elements of a well-crafted CV and providing valuable tips for creating a standout resume tailored to specific job opportunities. Additionally, she emphasised the importance of building a strong LinkedIn brand for networking and career growth.
