UTAR, UTAR Hospital, DXN and PRIHATIN forge closer ties to advance natural product research

A quadripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed among UTAR, UTAR Hospital, DXN Holdings Berhad and Yayasan Prihatin Nasional (PRIHATIN) at Sungai Long Campus on 30 July 2023 in efforts to advance research and promote traditional and complementary medicine treatments within the healthcare industry. The MoU will focus on natural products research, and create awareness about Traditional and Complementary Medicine treatments offered by UTAR Hospital.

Signing the MoU were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, DXN Holdings Berhad Executive Chairman Datuk Lim Siow Jin and PRIHATIN Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Hj Mohd Aizuddin Ghazali. UTAR Hospital CEO and Medical Director Prof Dr Lau Hui-Ping had signed the MoU before the ceremony. The signing was witnessed by UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, UTAR Hospital Traditional and Complementary Medicine Centre Director Assoc Prof Dr Te Kian Keong, DXN Holdings Berhad Special Consultant to Chairman Dato’ Von Sip Hsien and PRIHATIN Chief Financial Officer Rohaiza binti Yaacob.

Datuk Lim said, “It is a great honour to establish this cooperative relationship with UTAR, UTAR Hospital and PRIHATIN. Together, we will focus on research into natural products and promote the awareness and adoption of traditional and complementary medicine treatments, advancing the healthcare industry to benefit all.”

Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “By joining forces, our three institutions demonstrate a shared commitment to fostering innovative research, promoting excellence in healthcare, and improving the well-being of our communities. At the heart of this MoU lies our commitment to advancing natural product research. With the combined expertise of UTAR, UTAR Hospital, DXN Holdings Berhad and Yayasan Prihatin Nasional, we will explore new frontiers in the field of natural products, discover ground-breaking treatments, and unlock the potential of nature’s resources.”

A mock cheque presentation was held in conjunction with the MoU signing ceremony. On behalf of DXN Holding Berhad, Datuk Lim presented the mock cheque of a donation worth RM3.5million to UTAR Education Foundation, which was received by Prof Dato’ Ewe.

Also present at the signing ceremony were UTAR Hospital Principal Ayurvedic Practitioner Dr Chiramel Devassy Siby, M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Dean Academician Emeritus Prof Dr Cheong Soon Keng, Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research (Sungai Long Campus) Deputy Director Prof Ts Dr Lim Yang Mooi, Division of Community and International Networking Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, guests from DXN Holdings Berhad, PRIHATIN and UTAR staff.
