Dato’ Joseph Lim during his presentation

The Faculty of Accountancy and Management, the Belt and Road Strategic Research Centre and the Centre for Entrepreneurial Sustainability jointly organised a talk titled “Sustainable business thinking and value creation” on 21 July 2023 at Sungai Long Campus. The talk was presented by Global Green Synergy Sdn Bhd Founder and Managing Director Dato’ Joseph Lim Heng Ee and moderated by FAM Department of Economics Head Dr Tiong Kui Ming.

Dato’ Joseph Lim, who is also the industry advisor of FAM Bachelor of Economics (Honours) Global Economics, shared his success story as a motivation for the participants during the talk. He said, “Every success has failures behind it. We need to learn to think outside the box, explore creative ideas and face the challenges that are ahead of us.”

He added, “To have sustainable business thinking and value creation, we may not necessarily follow the original track; we must jump out of the existing frame and utilise our imagination. Enterprises need to continuously be innovative and creative. Never look at the new world with old thinking; think of modernisation.”

In the talk, Dato Joseph Lim emphasised the importance of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices in driving a sustainable business. “ESG is vital for a sustainable business as it ensures that a company operates responsibly, addressing environmental impact, social welfare and ethical governance. A business that prioritises ESG promotes long-term sustainability and stakeholder trust, while at the same time reducing resource consumption, carbon footprint and fostering eco-friendly operations.”

Dato’ Joseph Lim is the Malaysia Macau Chamber of Commerce President and Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce Vice President. He won the World Creative Young Entrepreneur Award in 2011.
