Tax planning and tax compliance talk by LHDN
The tax regime in Malaysia has become increasingly complex with more emphasis being placed on individual taxpayers’ responsibilities. To delve into more details, the Department of Commerce and Accountancy of UTAR Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) invited the Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia (LHDN) for a knowledge-sharing session on 26 July 2023 at UTAR Kampar Campus.
Invited to deliver the talk titled “How to maximize your tax claims: e-filing e-BE (Tahun Taksiran 2022)” was LHDN Senior Tax Executive Ms Sreesulosana Ramanathan Chettiar. The talk was attended by Head of Department of Commerce and Accountancy Ms Sonia Johanthan, academic staff, administrative staff and students.
The tal aimed to emphasise the relevance of tax planning, and understand taxpayers’ responsibilities and tax eligibility for efficient tax planning. It also aimed to highlight the importance of early awareness of tax planning to avoid aggressive tax planning and tax evasion.
The sharing session started with a welcome speech by Sonia where she thanked Ms Sreesulosana for taking the time to provide the informative talk to the participants.
Ms Sreesulosana started the talk by highlighting the significance of improving tax compliance through the concept of awareness, education and services (AES). She was also seen providing tax planning tips and guidelines to the participants. Additionally, she also underlined the Special Voluntary Disclosure Programme (SVDP) 2.0, which provided taxpayers the opportunity to voluntarily report their incorrect and/or undisclosed incomes without tax penalties.
Before ending her talk, the speaker expressed her gratitude to UTAR for inviting LHDN to provide this educational talk. She hopes this sharing session will help raise tax awareness, guide young generations to learn more about tax, and produce responsible taxpayers who can inculcate positive tax culture.
The insightful sharing session ended with a souvenir presentation and photography session.
