UTAR and Altramation Manufacturing Group forge ties to advance robotics

A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between UTAR and Altramation Manufacturing Group Sdn Bhd on 11 August 2023. Signing the MoA were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and Altramation Manufacturing Group Sdn Bhd Director Mr Alfred Lo while witnessing the signing ceremony were UTAR Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research Director Assoc Prof Dr Yong Thian Khok and Ms Ng Siew Peng. The collaboration represents a significant step towards innovation and progress in the field of robotics. Through the MoA, both parties will work together to develop Autonomous Mobile Robot with a robot arm and battery system.

In his speech, Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “By pooling resources and expertise, we can undertake more ambitious and innovative projects, leading to groundbreaking discoveries and cutting-edge technologies. The Autonomous Mobile Robot project is a prime example of how our joint efforts can result in solutions that have a transformative impact on industries and societies, benefitting various sectors and contributing to economic growth.”

Mr Alfred Lo said, “I am delighted to collaborate with UTAR on a project to build Autonomous Mobile Robot. Altramation Manufacturing Group Sdn Bhd believes that Malaysia will require more Autonomous Mobile Robots in the future to address the labour market and technology requirements. Malaysia needs enhanced technology, knowledge and collaboration to forge a better future and establish a leading position in technology and industry knowledge. Thus, partnering with UTAR is a strategic decision that propels us in this direction. As Malaysians, we have the potential to become a pivotal point in the global industry and excel within the Southeast Asian region. I am hopeful that we can work closely together to achieve this shared goal.

Also present at the ceremony were UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Dean Assoc Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She; LKC FES academics Dr Kwan Ban Hoe, Dr Ng Oon-Ee, Dr Hau Lee Cheun, Ir Dr Mun Hou Kit and Ir Dr Danny Ng Wee Kiat, Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering with Honours students Wong Yee Hang and Lee Min Shen; and Ms Jill Khoo, Mr Lee Jenn Ming and Mr Liew Lap Hong.
