The
President of UTAR and ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology (AAET), Ir
Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, presented the AAET Foreign Fellow certificate to
Engr Mustafa Balarabe Shehu, the president-elect of the World Federation of
Engineering Organisations (WFEO), at UTAR Sungai Long Campus on 31 July
2023.
Mr Mustafa was elected as an AAET Foreign Fellow
during the tenure of Ir Academician Emeritus Prof Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Chuah
Hean Teik, AAET immediate past president, in the year 2021. It was delivered
now by the current president, Prof Dato’ Ewe. Accompanying Prof Dato’ Ewe at
the ceremony was AAET Secretary General Ir Ts Choo Kok Beng.
Moreover,
AAET Fellow Ir Yam Teong Sian, AAET Fellow Dr Teo Fang Yenn, Malaysia
Capacity Development Network for Water Management (MyCDNet) Committee Member
Dr Kalithasan representing AAET Fellow Datuk Lim Chow Hock, and IEM
Secretariats Mr Adam Sofri and Ms Valli Saminathan were also present at the
event.

The ceremony
also witnessed a discussion session between UTAR and AAET members which
started with the presentation of the UTAR corporate video. Prof Dato’ Ewe
extended a warm welcome to Mr Mustafa and appreciated his effort in visiting
UTAR. During the discussion, Prof Dato’ Ewe suggested a future direction
involving different universities and continents working together so that
future engineers will be able to have experiences from different continents,
besides gaining problem-solving experiences. Meanwhile, Mr Mustafa expressed
his gratitude for giving him the opportunity to be a Foreign Fellow of the
AAET. He mentioned that it was a good learning opportunity.

Later, Ir Ts
Choo did some sharing about AAET, including how it started, its objective,
as well as its past activities such as the Virtual Kuala Lumpur Engineering
Science Fair 2021 (e-KLESF), Joint webinars on Chinese Medicine and Covid-19
with the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), and AAET Green Award 2021, to
name a few. Dr Lim also took the opportunity to do a short but detailed
presentation on UTAR’s MOOC (Massive Open Online Course).
Prof Dato’ Ewe suggested introducing the MOOC to Nigeria with the
help of UTAR. The event ended with a group photo.
