UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and
Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min represented UTAR to participate
in the Joint Conference of Southeast Asian Confucius Institutes, held at
Beijing International Convention Center, China from 20 to 21 July 2023.
Accompanying Prof Goi was UTAR Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) Dean Assoc
	Prof Dr Chong Siou Wei.
The conference was organised by the Chinese
International Education Foundation (CIEF) along with Beijing Language and
	Culture University.
The opening ceremony featured an award presentation
session, which was held to give recognition to newly established Confucius
Institutes. Prof Goi represented UTAR to receive the plaque from CIEF along
with Dezhou University (DZU) President Prof Zhao Changlin. The plaque served
as a testament to the cooperative efforts of UTAR, DZU, and CIEF. This
collective initiative was formalised through a memorandum of agreement (MoA)
signed on 22 May 2023, for the establishment of a Confucius Institute at
UTAR. Another notable event during the ceremony was the generous donation by
China Literature Ltd to Thai Confucius Institute (Classroom) Development
	Alliance.
The conference saw representatives from 62 Confucius
Institutes, spanning across 10 Southeast Asian countries, gathering in
Beijing. Their objective was to exchange insights on the operation of
Confucius Institutes, foster collaborative innovation, and collectively
envision a sustainable path for the future. The conference also featured a
range of engaging activities, including an expert forum, a case-sharing
session, two panel sessions, and a concurrent exhibition showcasing
resources for International Chinese Language Education.
