STEM Outreach Head Dr Ong Kiah Ju delivered two talks titled “𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠

and “𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲
𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲
𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮”
(STEAM Education) to 190 teachers in Miri, Sarawak on 4 August 2023. The
teachers assembled to gain insights from the talks.
At the STEM Education and Future talk, Dr Ong spoke about the changing
world, the industrial revolution, future jobs, skills needed in the future
and STEM education. Meanwhile, the Creative Science Drama talk saw Dr Ong
sharing the objective and examples of science fiction movies, creative
science drama, types of creative science drama and how to implement creative
science drama.
Dr Ong shared, “The top 10 skills in 2023 are analytic thinking, creative
thinking, resilience, flexibility and agility, motivation and
self-awareness, curiosity and lifelong learning, technological literacy,
attention to detail, empathy and active listening, leadership and social
influence, and quality control.”
Dr Ong added, “Jobs in STEM are predicted to grow by 14.2 per cent, twice as
fast as non-STEM jobs at 7.4 per cent. Sixty-five per cent of children
entering primary school today will ultimately end up working in completely
new job types that don’t yet exist.”
