Broadening knowledge through industrial visit

UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus organised an educational trip to Quality Coils Industries Sdn Bhd, a mosquito coil manufacturing company in Mambang Diawan, Kampar on 19 October 2023. This marked the first educational trip organised by CFS-KPR post-COVID-19 pandemic.

Guided by Deputy Director for Student Affairs and Development of CFS (Kampar) Mr Lim Khiew Loon, along with lecturers Mr Pan Wai Seng, Ms Lee Mee Yung, and Mr Tan Jun Bin, the trip was organised to provide students with an opportunity to learn and explore the technology and techniques employed by the coil manufacturer in their product manufacturing. The trip saw active participation from Foundation students.

Upon arrival, the participants were warmly welcomed by Production Manager Mr Ng Zian Yen and Production Executive Mr Chong Choon Hou. The group proceeded to the conference room and was introduced to the factory’s background, workflow and facilities. Subsequently, Mr Ng and Mr Chong guided the participants on a comprehensive factory tour, giving intricate details about making mosquito coils. The manufacturing process involved raw materials mixing and blending, followed by kneading, extruding, stamping, drying, packing and finally quality assurance checking.

After the factory tour, the participants headed back to the conference room for an engaging Q&A session. During the session, Mr Ng also provided insights on the marketing strategies, major customers, factory operating mode in different seasons, and the challenges faced during the MCO period.

The visit concluded with Mr Lim expressing gratitude to Mr Ng by presenting a token of appreciation.

In general, the participants expressed satisfaction with the visit. They have shared feedback indicating they gained insights into the comprehensive production cycle of mosquito coils and the associated marketing strategies. Additionally, some participants expressed anticipation for future educational trips of a similar nature.
