UTAR received visitors from China Executive
Leadership Academy Pudong (CELAP) on 30 November 2023 at Sungai Long Campus.
The visitors from CELAP were Member of Executive
Committee and Director-General of Department of Participant Affairs Mr Xiao
Bingnan, Director-General of Department of Human Resources Mr Wang Youming,
Division Director of Department of International Exchange and Programme
Development Mr Ding Jinfeng, Division Director of General Office Ms Zhou
Hui, Division Director of Department of Participant Affairs Mr Zhou Zhiping,
and Law Division Director of Department of Academics Prof Wei Shujun.
Welcoming the visitors were UTAR Vice President for
Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, Faculty
of Accountancy and Management (FAM) academics Assoc Prof Dr Law Kian Aun and
Dr Fok Kuk Fai, Tun Tan Cheng Lock Centre for Social and Policy Studies
(TCLC) Assistant Manager Mr Lee Jenn Yuan and Division of Community and
International Networking Assistant Manager Ms Wang Yiling.
At the meeting, Prof Choong and Mr Xiao introduced
UTAR and CELAP respectively and moved on to discuss areas of potential
collaboration. The meeting involved strategic discussions and planning for
international collaborative research, particularly on topics related to the
Belt and Road Initiative. The two parties also hoped to extend collaboration
to areas such as staff training and exchange, as well as organising academic
seminars and talks, showcasing a commitment to fostering mutual academic
growth and understanding. The visit ended with a souvenir exchange and a
group photo session.
Since the signing of the memorandum of understanding
(MoU) in 2015, the collaboration between UTAR and CELAP has borne fruit
across multiple initiatives.

Background
China Executive Leadership Academy Pudong (CELAP), a
prominent national institution established in 2005 for leadership training
and development, was jointly approved by the Central Committee of the CPC
and the State Council. Under the direct administration of the Organisation
Department of the CPC Central Committee, CELAP has garnered consistent
attention from top Chinese leaders. With an expansive campus and modern
facilities, CELAP focuses on training senior party and government officials,
business executives, diplomats, and military officers. It has developed the
CELAP Model, emphasising practical leadership development, integrating new
theories and practices, fostering international exchanges, and actively
engaging in research. The institution has hosted numerous foreign
dignitaries and expanded collaborations globally. UTAR and CELAP signed an
MoU and became strategic partners on 12 May 2015.
