CFS Kampar organises basic first aid training for staff

In an effort to better equip UTAR staff with the knowledge of managing medical emergencies, the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Committee of the Centre for Foundation Studies, UTAR Kampar Campus successfully organised a Basic First Aid workshop for 25 staff on 20 October 2023.

The training was done by Mr Devendraraj Krisnan, who is a certified instructor with the Resuscitation Council of Asia. With more than 15 years of experience, he is currently a clinical instructor at the University of Cyberjaya. He has vast experience in emergency responses as well as crisis and disaster management.

The workshop was specially designed as a basic introductory course for first aid; many topics were covered.

Mr Devendraraj started by explaining what is first aid, the objectives of first aid and personal safety. He then explained the right response when encountering an unconscious victim and the proper first aid treatment. He also touched on other first aid treatments for other conditions such as bleeding, swelling, cramps, burns, fractures and cardiac arrest. The workshop proceeded to a hands-on session where participants got the opportunity to practice tying different bandages for different fractures and wounds on their partner and performing CPR on a test dummy.

All in all, the participants thoroughly enjoyed the workshop where they learned something that may hopefully be useful and life-saving to them someday.
